Charleston’s rich 350 year experience has yielded masters in their crafts. From the sweetgrass basket makers who weave nature into art, to the blacksmiths who forge iron into history…these artisans disbursed their legacy throughout the Lowcountry. Christopher Werner, a 19th century blacksmith, left his mark on iconic buildings such as the Sword Gate house and the John Rutledge House Inn. In the 20th Century, blacksmith Philip Simmons was celebrated for his iron gates found all over the City including Waterfront Park. With reverence for Charleston’s history and artisanship, the Harleston Gates team has commissioned an extraordinary partnership to design and incorporate a timeless, distinctive collection of gates and ironwork.
